Training & Development Procedures Chlorinated Methaogs CMP PROCEDURE TECH NOVA LIQUID SAMPLER PURPOSE Sampling procedure using the TECH NOVA sampler. SCOPE This procedure will instruct you on the correct way to sample process streams that are equipped with TECH NOVA samplers. RELATED PROCEDURES Sampling policy for gas and liquid samples, waste disposal policy. DEFINITIONS TECH NOVA Sampler This is the name of the sampling device used for catching a process samples. SAFETY CONCERNS & EQUIPMENT THERMAL: This sample point may at times have a high or low temperature, so when catching this sample use necessary precaution as to prevent skin contact. Use gloves when sampling. CHEMICAL: Remember you are working with chemicals that may cause skin and eye irritation. MECHANICAL: Use caution when working with cylinders that be under pressure. ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS With the use of a Tech Nova sampler there should be no emissions to the atmosphere if everything is working properly. SPECIAL CONCERNS Tech Nova Sample Cylinder should be emptied after sample analysis is complete. PROCEDURE RECOMMENDATIONS If a procedure is currendy active at relief, state in the relief notes the status off the job and the steps that have been completed up to this point. Highlight the procedure steps as they are completed so operations personnel are aware of its status. This is especially important during shift relief when jobs are incomplete. Avoid carryover of a job when possible. I.E. Starting a Job at 5:00 AM/PM, just prior to relief. Install the sample cylinder into the Technova Valve and then rotate the cylinder to insure a snug fit Tighten the lock screw to secure the cylinder. With the cylinder installed, open the valve on the cylinder by rotating the rear valve handle counter clock wise. If a protective shield is installed for this sample point close shield before going on to step four. Now open the in-line valve by depressing the spring loaded handle, or if equipped with a remote switch, rotate switch to the open position. You will see the large wheel on the sample cylinder begin to rotate, this will indicate that sample is filling the cylinder. Once the cylinder is about 3/4 filled, release the spring loaded handle, or if equipped with a remote switch, rotate switch to close position, to stop filling the cylinder. Now block in the needle valve on the sample cylinder by rotating the handle clockwise. After all valves are closed loosen the locking screw and remove the sample cylinder and replace the sealing plug. Return the sample to the lab for analysis. Dispose of unused sample when analysis is completed. Any deviation from this requires plant superintendent approval. To do work on instrumentation in areas requiring a full acid suit to be wom, the thin rubber gloves are permitted. For any elevated work on lines or equipment which would require an acid suit, see procedure "Sulfuric acid lines and equipment requiring elevated work."
