February lg, 193$ Mr. J. C. Taylor Lthyl Gasoline Corporation Chrysler Building 405 Lexington Avenue Hew York, New York Attention Mr. 0. B. Lewis Dear Mr. Lewis: . In answer to jrour letter of February 3 v/e are of the opinion that it 7/ould be disadvantageous to modify our procedure for taking samples except in very special cases v/here such a change night be indicated because of the insistence of the refinery management. In our original discussions w ith the safety men, at which you were present, it was pointed out that ours is essentially an experimental program and that while the nen may be put to the necessity of entering tanks which are not considered to be safe for cleaning, it would be necessary for us to have samples at that time. As the great majority of the samples which we will probably obtain are n o w in our hands, it would seen better to continue as you have until we have the necessary information. 'Mi/A . In regard to the request for the Texas Company, River Rouge, Michigan, noted in your letter of January 31> you may advise Mr. J. G. Detwiler to forward the samples to this laboratory and we will advise you of the results of the analyses. Very truly yours, WFM:vr Wiiiard F . Ma chi e ,1.1. D. 0022588 N22587
