Gottesman Executive Director February 22, 1990 TO: Robert Sherman RE: Supporting Membership in the Vinvl Institute At its December meeting, the Vinyl Institute Executive Board approved the establishment of a new class of membership that of supporting members for manufacturers of vinyl film and sheet and blow molders for the packaging industry. The impetus behind this is to obtain additional financial support for the programs of the Vinyl Packaging Council and for the expensive technical and communications programs we are undertaking to show that vinyl is recyclable. I enclose for your information, copies of letters that have been received to this point from two companies invited to participate as supporting members. The first, from Klockner-Pentaplast is just for your information and I will be responding to Mr. van Beek, assuring him that our intent is to expand the programs to include vinyl film and sheet, which were not original objectives of the Vinyl Packaging Council. I would appreciate your advise on how to handle the Reynolds Metals Company letter, inasmuch as Mr. Knox is declining our invitation because of the dues which Reynolds Metals Company already pays to SPI. Obviously, I would like to see Reynolds Metals participate in these programs, but we cannot set up a double standard and we will need these monies in order to promote vinyl film and sheet in packaging applications.
