5 4. X-Rays The x-rays are performed by 2 state-licensed x-ray technicians. The x-ray unit is manufactured by the General Electric Company. It was purchased in 1980. The unit was calibrated by a factory representative in April, 1981. A Du Pont Daylight processor is used. It was purchased in 1980. The solutions are premixed and are changed every two weeks. The x-ray film is Cronex 4 Daylight. The expiration date for the 10" x 12" film is June, 1982, and September, 1982, for the 14" x 17" film. Film badge service is provided by Landauer. Measurement is performed monthly. The two tech nicians are included in the film badge program. The results are filed in Radiation Protection Office and the Medical unit. The intensifying screens are Cronex Daylight SP. They were purchased in 1980. The grid is a Liebel Flarsheim. It was purchased in 1980. It has a 12 to 1 ratio and 103 lines per inch. The films are .interpreted by Radiological Services, Inc. The radiologists are James Carter, M.D., John Ralsten, M.D. and Jeffrey Chase, M.D. They are certified by the American Board of Radiology. Eighteen employees with x-ray findings compatible with the changes which occur from exposure to asbestos have been referred to a pulmonary special ist. The plant ha3 been referring only employees with positive findings and "significant" Du Pont asbestos exposure. Employees with positive findings who do not have "significant" Du pont asbestos exposure have been informed, but have not been referred to a pulmonary specialist at Company expense. Dr. Power and Mr. Doughty will discuss this matter with Dr. Culpepper in the near future. 5. Electrocardiography The electrocardiograph is a Hewlett Packard 1500 Bi It was purchased in 1976. The electro cardiograms are taken by the nurses and interpreted by Dr. Power. Copies of the tracings are made available to employees on request. The quality of the tracings is satisfactory for interpretation. Some base-line sway and 60-cycle interference is present. All employees receive a base-line electrocardiogram on employment. The test is repeated every 5 years until age 40. After this, the electrocardiograms are performed annually. DUP 0908642
