PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT A ADVISORY May, 1982 Volume I Issue 5 AUTHORITY REPORTS *NO EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE OF HARMFUL EFFECTS' FROM MINERAL FIBER INGESTION J. M. G. Davis, M.D. of the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh, Scotland has stated, "So far there is no experimental evidence of harmful effects following mineral fibre ingestion and human epidemiological evidence that the ingestion of asbestos may increase levels of gastrointestinal cancer is disputed by some workers." This statement, published in the Annals of Occupational Hygiene, was in response to the question, "Is there any evidence of damage when asbestos or other mineral fibres are administered by gastro-intestinal route?" The discussion followed a presentation by Dr. Davis entitled "The Biological Effects of Mineral Fibres," which addressed the history of asbestos-related disease and research on biological effects of asbestos, other naturally-occurring mineral fibers and man-made fibers.
