Frohreich May 29, 1985 SUPERFUND REPORTING At 9:04 a.m. on 5/23/85, I called the National Response Center (800-424-8802) to report a release of vinyl chloride to the atmosphere. Ensign Pickett accepted the report. I told him at 1:30 a.m. on 5/23/85 our plant experienced a release of vinyl chloride to the atmosphere. I told him the release occurred while charging one reactor and it was due to a valve which was open but should have been closed on a reactor that was being dumped. I told him an operator in the area noticed the release when it started and this operator radioed the panel operator to stop the dump. The corrective action taken was to stop the dump which was done immediately to stop the release. I told him there were no injuries or exposures. The amount of the release was estimated to be less than one hundred pounds. I told him the incident would be reported to the Mississippi Bureau of Pollution Control. At 9:20 a.m. on 5/23/85, I called Jerry Banks of the Mississippi Bureau of Pollution Control and told him I had just reported an incident to the National Response Center and described the incident to him.
