The attached information is provided in ao ettespt to coaply vith the following request that you tide to C. V. Bickerstaff, Manager, Industrial Hygiene several weeks ago.

2. Eeploye exposure to asbestos-current and historical.
At the outset ! want to eentien chat this data is by no scans couplets, but vc are hopeful it will provide soee background information.
During the early to aid 1960's, Industrial Hygieae was encouraging the divisions to elieiaatc the use of asbestos and find suitable substitutes. In February, 1976 an effort was Bade to gather specific data on'the use of asbestos within the. corporation, and to alert the divisions to the significance of its continued usage and the probleas of eoapliaoce with OSKA Regulations. Attaehacnt 1 is a copy of the letter sent to all Industrial Hygiene and Safety Coordinators, inforeing the* of a one-day scainar on asbestos. A questionnaire was sent with this letter to survey the use of ascites at each location. Attaehacnt II is a roster of those attending the scainar. ..
Attaehacnt 111 lists (V) locations that at one tiae or another used aaterial containing asbestos. In Attaehacnt IV we have suaaarised the data supplied on the returned questionnaires to indicate soac of the Vestinghousc products that contaia soae fora of asbestos.
Since 1976 oast of these asbestos products heve been replaced with another
type el notarial* Attschneat V is a list of sone of these substitute
njterials. We are aware that Trafford PCS has had sone difficulty in finding
a replaceaent for the asbestos-neoprene stop gasket naterial for bushings. At
the seoinar, the Haspten people announced that a decision was sade to stop
production on asbestos eootaining nicartas. However, because of the special
need at other divisions, they nay have sone United production. Bedford docs
have sone linited production of coated asbestos paper*

We cannot answer to which (V) products, chat contained asbestos nre no longer
sanufacturcd or supplied, except to note that the Consuner Produets group is
oo longer part of Vestieghousc.

In regards to esploye exposure, no nenitering was done prior to 1973. Attachnent VI is a suaaary of asbestos nonitoring done froo 1973 to 1979, which we prepared for the Legsl Separtoent. We can bring it up to date if you need jthis infonsatioa. I have also included Attachnent VII suBaariting data froe the questionnaires to show asbestos products, used during plant operations, that are not included in a (V) product. -
