Hood To d a te , a ir sampling surveys have been conducted by th e ir corporate s a fe ty o f f i c e and the Co n tin en tal Insurance Company. Mr. Hood said he i s being pressed by lo c a l management to s t a r t taking a ir samples lo c a lly and he i s in the process o f buying the equipment. \ CHARTER Charter has an ou tsid e consu lting firm that has done an i n i t i a l survey o f th e ir re fin e r y and comes back once each month to monitor those areas where there i s a p o s s ib ilit y o f exposing an employee to hazardous m a te ria ls. 1 did not learn the cost of the i n i t i a l survey, but the monthly survey charge i s $250.00 per day. Hr. Lyman Cox accompanies the person conducting the te s ts and makes and retain s the records of the t e s t s . Mr. Cox i s C h a rte r's Sa fety Supervisor. This type te s t is good, but does not meet the OSHA requirements fo r personnel testin g . CCR 0000340 ' DIAMOND SHAMROCK A ir sam pling is done by sev e ra l groups in the Diamond Shamrock p la n t. They have an in -p la n t In d u s tr ia l Hygiene Manager whose group does the a ir sampling th at is necessary to meet the OSHA standards. At th is tim e, they have records of personnel samples back to 1972 and most o f these records w ill be retained fo r 30 y e a r s . I talked to Mr. Juan Carlos Molina who is in charge o f personnel sam pling. \ CCR 0000347 Several years ago, S h e ll had an i n i t i a l survey made of th e ir refin ery to determine where they might have excessive exposure tp employees working in the r e fin e r y . Since th a t time, the Safety Department con ducts q u arterly surveys to gather background inform ation. The Safety Department a lso conducts d a ily surveys or spot checks when they are requested to do so or when they f e e l they have a problem. The Safety Department re ta in s the f i l e s on the a ir sam pling.
