Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with mixed emotions that I want to let you know that this Friday is my last day at IPAA. On the 20th, I'll be starting as a lobbyist at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association covering (you guessed it!) endangered species issues as well as federal lands and hydropower.
I have been blessed with great members, tremendous colleagues, and many, many friends as a result of my time at IPAA. I found it beyond rewarding to help navigate the greatest legislative body in the world on behalf of a truly amazing industry. To call out a few members, I want to especially acknowledge my current and former Committee Chairs, Gretchen Kern of Pioneer Resources, and Ron Neal of Flouston Energy. They both are truly amazing people that have inspired me both personally and professionally through their tales of personal sacrifice, wonkiness and collaboration. I also have several "work horses" of my ESA Task Force that I'm also happy to count among my friends, especially Nick Owens with Anadarko who has the unique ability to dumb-down biological and mitigation issues, even once while sheltering in a shipping container in Mozambique. I would also add that IPAA is a great place to work and employs so many incredibly smart, passionate and talented people. If I were to rank these people who have helped me the most during my IPAA tenure, Dan Naatz would be number one. He is truly a terrific mentor who never would ask me to do anything that he hasn't done himself and constantly pushes me to learn and grow.
No matter what challenges life has in store for me in the future, you can rest assured that I will continue to keep
advocating for balance of conservation of America's wildlife with production of America's bountiful resources. If you
need to get in touch with me, I can be reached at

Thank you again for your friendship.
Kindest regards,
Sam
At this point, decisions regarding the new IPAA structure will need to be finalized but tentative plans are for Dan Naatz and Mallori Miller to take over the ESA portfolio and for Lee Fuller to reassume the role of the Environment and Safety Committee.
