Sohr The Lowe Brothers Company Dayton, Ohio Dear Mr. Kohrs Dr. Ashe brought your letter of January 3rd to me for discussion, and in view of the suggestions which you have made, I have con sidered it wise to reply to the letter myself. I considered it entirely feasible for U3 to make a general statement of the situation for the benefit of your men. We have prepared such a statement, which Dr. Ashe will present, a copy of which I am enclosing herewith for your inforraation. I think this statement will put us on record and will render unlikely any misunderstanding or misrepresentation of our attitude. ' On the other hand I would consider it highly Impractical to try to anticipate questions which might be asked by the workmen, and the replies which would be given thereto. Any attempt to do this would make a bad appearance in addition to being impractical. Accordingly I make two suggestions. First, that any replies to specific questions, a3 made by Dr. Ashe, will be based on the general consideration of the written statement, and would have to be considered in the light of that statement, so far as the record of discussion is concerned. Second, if it seems desirable to have a record of all that is said at the conference with the men, it would seem much more satisfactory to have a stenographer present and to take down every thing that is said. The latter procedure would have the advantage that there would be no appearance of anticipating the course of the conference and con trolling the discussion. My own opinion is that it would be better if Dr. Ashe were not to appear, than if he were to take part in what would probably be regarded as a pre-arranged discussion. N14915 K 0013146 .
