subject:/Asbestosy- An Update of Epidemiology and Pathology Since 1976
TO: All Air Force Bioenvironmental Engineers (BEEs) All Air Force Environmental Health Officers (EHOs)
1. Attached please find USAF OEHL Report 84-125C0111B0B which has been prepared in order to update guidance and information previously in an earlier publication dated 1976.
2. It is expected that the experience gained by this Laboratory in successfully defending against an unmerited Environmental Differential Pay claim will be of significant interest and value at virtually every Air Force installation.
3. The attached report was recently reviewed at length by a Department of Defense Committee on Occupational Health Medical Surveillance. It was generally agreed that reports such as this may have great value in the realm of worker education, thereby encouraging their participation and cooperation in hazard prevention both on and off the job. It was suggested that the Committee consider preparation of such report for future distri bution DOD-wide.
4. It is hoped that the attached report will be maintained as a readily available and useful reference for- use when questions concerning asbestos hazards arise.
5. Any questions or requests for additional information or clarification may be addressed to USAF OEHL/ECH, AUTOVON 240-3214. Additional copies are readily available and may be obtained from USAF OEHL/SUA, AUTOVON 240-3421.
R. B. GRAHAM, Colonel, USAF, BSC Vice Commander
