VC1 Stripping Proa Qon 351 With a Rodney Hunt Introduction; 212" 1 In 1964 Oeon 351 latex wee successfully stripped on No. 2 RodneyHunt Evaporator in the Louisville Hycar Department. Evaluation of the Rofeey-Hunt for stripping Oeon Latex was not pursued at that tins because the Sontrifuge appeared to be a better Method. Because the Avon Lake Plant now states that the Sontrifuge is not effective, it is desired to activate the evaluation of a Rodney-Bunt for stripping VC1 froe Oeon Latex. Oeon 331 was stripped frow 0.26 to 0.040 Vinyl Chloride on January 17* 1968 on No. 2 Ro<toey-Bunt Evaporator (a No. 4) in the Hycar Dspartaent with jacket temperaturea frow 110* to 170*P at 300 gallons per hour feed rate. Latex used had been recovered in normal recovery strippers of Bldg. 121. Conclusions; The Rodney-Bunt Evaporator decreased residual VC1 fron 0.26 to 0.040 (chromatograph) with an increase in coagulua fron 0 to 0.60 greater than 0.43 u by millpore Filter. Particle else by Electron Microscope showed no significant differences for the control (.260 VCl) and latex stripped at jaoket te^eratures of 130 and 130 jP. Rape indatlont Continue investigation of the Rodney* Bunt Concentrator as secondary 'per fallowing initial recovery stripping. Evaluation can April 1, 19GB after a seoond paste concentrator has stripped to 0,260 VOX in B*121, by nornal recovery, --tripped on BO. f Rotoey-fent Evaporator in the Hycar ,it. V H. B. Barrett February 19# I960 -2- Prior to stripping, the latex was diluted to 49.7% and alkalinity Mas raised to 0.15P by addition of ammonia. Total solids of the oonoentrated product varied from 55.3 to 59*l and alkalinity from 0.08 to 0.100. The rate attained was 300 gallons per hour; 600 gallons per hour had been expeoted on this Rodney-Bunt (a Ho. 4). The cause of this reduced rate was heavy foam. The Rodney-Bunt vacuum dropped from 26.7 In. Hg to 28.0 In Hg. as jacket temperature was Increased from 110 to 170*F. With no foam carry over and only about 7 lbs. per hour of non oondensables (VC1) the change In vacuum la unexplained. However# the 26 in. Hg vacuum caused no particular problems.
