PPG TO: R. K. Lee D. L. Butler Inter-Office Correspondence DATE: FROM: August 12, 1991 J. A. Barter LOC: 36 West, G.O SUBJECT: Ethyl Chloride It has come to my attention recently that ethyl chloride has been added to the list of materials "Known to the State of California to Cause Cancer" under the provisions of Proposition 65. Apparently this action was taken during 1990 and the requirement to initiate appropriate warning activities was effective in July 1991. Our present MSDS does not include this information, which we have done for other CA listed materials. I have not verified that ethyl chloride is in fact listed by CA, but would encourage you to do so and to make whatever changes are required in the PPG MSDS. For your information, ethyl chloride has also recently been proposed for consideration in CA as a reproductive toxin under the same program. This action is in the earliest stage of the regulatory program and no labelling actions are required on our part at this time. cc: W. B. Graybill D. L.
