MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING The Chatman announced that the minutes of the previous meetings held on June 19 and 20, 1963 had been distributed. Unless there was a request for a reading or any cor rections or additions to be made thereto, a notion for their acceptance would be entertained. Upon notion duly cade, seconded and unanimously passed, it wee RESOLVED: That the minutes of the Beatings held on June 19 and 20, 2963 be accepted as distributed. REPORT OF THE FftESXDEKT It is very gratifying to see so many in attendance at this annual meeting representing all but cm Active Members. In addition to the delegates and alternates, there are present several ocabars of the very important Data Book and Technical Comait tee. They held a meeting last evening to clear up some controversial issuea and these may be reported upon In addition to their regular report. The interest and enthustasis of the members has been manifested in more ways Chan one during this past fiscal year which, to me, has passed vary quickly. Industry prob lems * some of which are due to proposed legislation by itate and Federal governing bodies concerning brake linings; national problems - civil rights, unemployment due to automation in some--cases but still a pert of the industrial revolution which, without controls, will automatically adjust itself as la the past; the untimely death of out late tresident and the precarious situation existing because of the vacancy in the Vice-Presidency; the alleviation of poverty, although there have been the indigent poor ever since historical records have been kept; and finally international involve ments which sees never ending and never solved because of the political aspirations of those who seek power.and, if in power, do not do better than their predecessors. All of these factors, plus our own business concerns, keep us so preoccupied that a year goes by before we are aware of it and we ate again together to hear what our Institute has accomplished and to help resolve some of the problems which have been studied end reported upon by various committees. At these sessions, you will have the opportunity of meeting those who are the newer representatives of our members, welcoming and making them a part of our organisation and aiding them in understanding the Institute's operation. If, during the course of these meetings, you wish enlightenment as to why certain actions have been taken or Che background for certain procedures and policies, please do not hesitate to request such information, A knowledge of the functions and activities of the Institute will result in the awareness of why this organisation must continue to function and the benefits accruing to each of us.
