Hanley May 19, 1994 Deluge General Monitors Modifications VISTA In the past, there have been problems due to power failures with the deluge system activating without sufficient cause. The following design proposes utilizing the current 24 VDC system to solve this problem. By doing this, the monitors will have a continuous power supply during a power failure which is possibly the most important time to insure that the monitors are working properly. The two types of monitors used for VCM detection are the Model 520 and Model 580. The 580's can utilize 24 VDC while the 520's must be supplied with 12 VDC. The design will propose to accomplish this using small transformers to convert the current system which is 24 VDC to 12 VDC. The project will also install backup air cylinders at each location of deluge valves throughout the plant. This will enable back up air in the event that the plant air is lost. There was a review meeting discussing issues relating to this project on Friday, May 6, at 9:00 a.m. in the main conference room. Questions and comments about the project were addressed at this time and changes were made. Project engineering will be asked to make a definitive estimate for this design. Amanda L.
