It would appear that he had a definite but inter mittent exposure sufficient to cause a considerable increase in the urinary excretion of lead. Along with several other workers, he sought medical attention for some complaints which were non-specific, although some of them were compatible with lead poisoning. All of this is outlined in the copy of the report from Dr. Stanchfield of Shelby, Montana. Apparently Dr. Stanchfield referred him to the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, Montana, for a urine lead determination. No blood lead determina tion was made and the urine was reported as "0.8385 mg/24 hours" (see enclosed copy on Columbus Hospital letterhead). On this basis, Dr.Stanchfield states ''this is ten times normal and confirms the diagnosis of lead poison ing". All the above was in April of 1966 at which time we first learned of the situation and began serial determinations of lead in blood and urine done in our own labor^o^^inder the direction of Ken Morse. Our results with respect to Mr. K I H H H V c i r e enclosed and you will note that at no time was his blood lead higher than .05 mg/lOOg. The same range of values was found in other employees, and when they were so advised all but Mr. (MBH^BMfrapparent ly stopped complaining and did not process any claims. Evidently Mr, has continued to press his case and he was referred by the Montana^maustrial Accident Board to Dr. Strizich in Helena for examination. Apparently Dr. Strizich was chosen as a consultant to the Board. My own impression of his report is that his N 5239 Dr. Robert A. Kehoe -2- December 21, 1966 findings were essentially normal. He, therefore, draws a conclusion that Mr, some time in the past had lead poisoning related to his jol^an^ma^need further treatment. We would certainly appreciate your opinion after you have had an oppor tunity to read these enclosures. We would be happy to send Mr. to the Kettering Laboratory for such examinations as you may wish to have made and will await your instructions regarding this action.
