Labeling Practices * T The Asbestos Study Committee, after considerable discussion and debate, and careful selection o f the wording, unanimously passed the following resolution at the February 1b, 1973 meeting: RESOLVED: That (l) where asbestos containing materials do not have th e ir asbestos fiber completely locked in, or (2) where subsequent operations may be performed on asbestos cont ain in g m aterials, the hazardous labeling practice be adhered to in accordance with the Label Specifieations in the OSHA Standards for Exposure to Asbestos IXist. In essence, the Committee is saying that the members should comply with the OSHA regulations. At the next meeting, the Committee plans to make a recommendat i on on the size and s ty le o f the la b el. Enclosed are the fin a l resu lts of the survey which was made of the membership concerning labeling by members. We received T5 replies fron an original canvass o f 25 members. (02780 V Laboratories for Sampling and/or Counting Airborne Asbestos Fibers Bulletin 71 - 2- (March 9, 1973 t'edical Examinations for Q5HA Asbestos Regulations In the OSHA .Standard for Exposure to Asbestos Dust, medical examination requir ements are spelled out for workers who may be exposed to airborne asbestos fib ers. V-ost firms with members on the Committee have already instituted the required medica examinat ions. There is an interesting service availab le from International Compumedics Corp oration (ICM) where they o ffe r to do the examinations, maintain records, e t c ., on what appears to be a reasonable fee b asis. Please refer to th e ir letter to the In stitu te o f February 6, 1973. The costs indicated were for a contract with the In stitu te - something that was not requested and which the In stitu te could rro.t d ire ctly sponsor. At the meeting one member mentioned that they have received the cooperation o f the lo cal TB and Respiratory Disease Association.
