(Bo) Bunting to asbestos during his employment at the Union Carbide Speedway Cryogenic Equipment Plant. From 1966 to 1968 V. Bunting was a second shift GeneralForeman. His responsibilities included the department which mixed a slurry of asbestos, sand and lime which was used to fill acetylene cylinders. From 1968 until 1984 he was Maintenance Foreman, primarily concerned with the acetylene cylinder department. The process of shredding bales of asbestos and adding the fibersto the slurry wasenclosed in 1974. Prior to that, the process was open. The shredder needed routine maintenance and occasionally became plugged. Protective equipment was required for employees entering the shredder enclosure. V. Bunting and his crew were responsible for shredder maintenance from 1966 to the sale of the business in 1984. It cannot be ruled out that he was exposed to asbestos prior to enclosing the shredder about 1974 and by improper protective equipment procedures after 1974. Evidence of exposure does not exist. There are stories I have been told of maintenance men having asbestos fibers on their clothes and just brushing the material off. The conclusion I have `come to is that it is likely that V.
