The Major purpose of the Meetings Is to give State and local officials an opportunity to present their views on proposed regulations for awarding of air pollution control progzan mlntenaaes grants, as authorised by the October 1966 anmflints to the Clean Air Act. This new farm at Federal support Is lntendsd to help State and local govern- ents carry 00 a sustained attack on comunlty air pollution problem. Awards of up to ons dollar In federal funds for each dollar of State or local spending can be mde to agencies serving a slr^ls state or nunlclpallty. Awards can be mde on s three-to-two basis to agencies serving two or acre Municipalities; this higher degree of support Is designed to atlaulste regional control activities. This support for the Maintenance of State and local air pollution control program Is in addition to tbs financial assistance that has bees -- sod still la -- available for the creation of new program or the lnprowensnt of existing program; such assistance was authorised by the Clean Air Act as It was passed In December 1963. The discussion of mlntenancs grants regulations will be conducted by Mr. Charles D. Yaffe, Chief of the Office of Progran and Survey 0rants of the Rational Center for Air Pollution Control.
