OPEN HEARTH FURNACE RUNNERS
In Great lakes Steel's bifuricated open hearth steel runners, NARCOLINE G is gunned with a Jetcreter over the surface of NARMAG CM-18 GUN gun mix or chrome plastic * The NARCOIXNE G acts as a parting agent and prevents the slag and steel from adhering to the chrome backup material in the runners . The NARCOI2NE G is gunned from 1/4" to 2" in thickness on the surface of the runners* There is no pre-mois tening . The runners are scraped and cleaned up after each heat and re-gunned with NARCOIINE G. From 15 to 40 bags are used each time the runners are cleaned up, depending upon the condition of the run ners . Present usage is approximately 16 pallets of NARCOI2NE G {3000# per pallet) per week* We are supplying NARMAG CM-18 GUN for lining these runners as the existing linings are replaced* NAR MAG CM-18 GUN is preferred because of labor savings. Runners can be gunned in 1-1/4 hours as opposed to 8 hours for ramming chrome plastic *
Kaiser's L-59-E has about the same properties as NARCOUNE G. We now share their requirements for open hearth runners with Kaiser on a 50-50 basis* Iawrence Refractories' C-60 and C-61 RUN-R-MIX and A. National Foundry Sand's gun mixes were much less expensive ($40*00 N.T. delivered). However, this material did not gun as well and did not allow the slag and metal skulls to pull free of the runners. It also cxacked on drying* Cleaning up runners after each heat was very dif ficult*
