Charles Davis was absent due to illness. Rufus Baca was the guest speaker for the meeting. He spoke about the up coming Contractor Safety Program which we plan to have Implemented by mid-year. Pictures were made of the Hourly Safety Committee In the plant newspaper about the different safety organizations In our plant. The Hourly Safety Committee will be coming up In one of the articles within the coming months. The recent incidents involving the contamination of the plant air header and napthalene bum were discussed by Mark Riddle. There was several comments about the Emergency Procedure Drill. In the critique It was felt the drill was worthwhile and should be done more frequently and without any notice. Old Bus I ness Barge M25 has to have pipefitters standing on the valve handle to have the relief valve changed. This was referred to Materials Handling and Maintenance for an answer. This Job should not be done without a scaffold being built. A hose on the docks was tested 1/17/84. It was understood that a 30 minute test was adequate. The next day the hose was used and It leaked. How long must a test be held to get an accurate test? Plant Engineering Technical Services Investigated this problem and agrees that a thirty minute test Is enough for any hose forty feet or less. Our hose testing procedure Is adequate and should not be changed because of this Incident. If this Is a problem again In the future, then Plant Engineering Technical Services should be contacted to look at the hose. Seme feedback was given on the problem of emergency alarms that cannot be heard at some locations In the plant. In Department 44 the alarm cannot be heard on the east side of the reformer while working. We will turn this concern over to Dept. 44 Supervision to possibly Install a new SC 001022 LAIV1002220 horn In this area and/or review to see If still valid. It was em phasized that all members of the Hourly Safety Committee should continue to contact all of the Unit/Craft safety representatives to help In locating these areas. Hourly Safety Committee Members were reminded to always contact their Unit/Craft safety representatIves about safety. Signing the safety log book Is a good way to help strengthen the relationship and show that their representatIve cares about their safety. New Business Traffic Safety People are driving vehicles too fast. Loads on vehicles have not been secured and have been noticed hanging out of truck. Nine men were observed riding In the back of a truck. All employees should STOP any traffic violations Immediately. If unable to stop the vehicle and talk to the driver, get a license number and call the Security Sergeant Immediately. We do not have a plant rule limiting the number of persons riding In the back of a truck. Only that they must be seated down In the truck and not up on the edge. More than three persons riding In the front seat Is proh1bI ted. A question was asked about the lockout procedure for equipment. Some crafts remove locks at 4:30 whether the work Is complete or not. This question will be reviewed with Maintenance Supervision. Our next meeting Is scheduled at 1:30 PM on May 29th In the Personnel Conference Room. 001023 2 LAM002221
