MINUTES OP THE MEETING OF JUNE 2? 197^ In the absence of the Executive Director, reading of the Minutes of the last Meeting -was dispensed with, IV. GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS The Chairman introduced Charles Grossman of A-Best Products Company, the newest Member to the Safety Wearing Apparel Group. Also introduced were two guests at the meeting: Allan Larimer of Fyrepel Products and Ted Rudolph of Marathon Rubber Products.  * 2- - V. COMMITTEE REPORTS Mr. Richard Sager, Member of the ASTM Committee on Standards for Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers gave a report, which is attached as Enclo sure A. Mr. Robert M. Thomas, ISEA's representative to the ANSI Ll8 Committee, Safety Clothing Specifications, gave a report which is attached as Enclo sure B. VI. GEORGE DICKSON'S TRIP TO POLAND Chairman Wheeler highlighted George Dickson's recent trip to Warsaw, Poland. Mr. Dickson went to Poland as an. official representative of ISEA and conducted a Seminar for five days on Protective Clothing. Safety Shoes, Noise Protectors, and Instruments were also covered. The meetings were well attended by top Polish company officials. Mr. Dickson visited a Refinery, and a Tool and Die Shop while there. He reported there is an apparent need for more and better Protective Clothing than they are now using; particularly in coated clothing, and gloves. Mr. Dickson felt the Polish Government extended excellent hos pitality to him while there, and that the trip proved worthwhile. VII. BEKDIX FEASIBILITY STUDY A report was given regarding the current status of the Bendix Feasibil ity Study on Safety Clothing Standards. A final draft is underway, estimated to include some 900 pages. (See R. M. Thomas' letter to Charles Toney dated September 26, 197^+ attached as Enclosure C.) VIII. TENTATIVE STANDARDS ON FIREMAN'S CLOTHING Chairman Wheeler led a discussion on the Tentative Standards on Fire man's Clothing, being prepared by the National Fire Protection Asso ciation (NFPA). He urged all Fire Clothing companies to take an active interest in reviewing these Standards. Also,. Mr. Wheeler volunteered his efforts in attempting to get ISEA representation on the NFPA Committee' involved in preparing these Standards. IX. CHEMICAL CLOTHING AND COATED GLOVES Brief discussions were held on Chemical Clothing and Coated Gloves. The intent here is to involve, all SWAG Members in any mutual problems they may have, whether it be Safety Clothing, Chemical Clothing, Fire Clothing, Gloves, or Disposables. X. SWAG PUBLIC RELATIONS PROGRAM A slide film presentation on Gloves was given by Bob Thomas. The thought was that something similar could be prepared by SWAG for Public Relations endeavors. A Member would accompany the film wherever it was shown, and answer questions. The American Society nrrn <-) Q - J* -3- of Safety Engineers, Safety Associations, and companies in the safety equipment industry were suggested as possible audiences. A show of hands indicated very little interest in such a project since it was felt that SWAG had too many Lines to adequately cower on film. The cost inwolwed was another harrier. XI. OLD BUSINESS The Chairman expressed his thanks to Frank Wilcher and Committee Members for their assistance in securing new members. SWAG is now approaching twenty members in the Group and new- applications are currently under consideration. XII. MEW BUSINESS Scarcity of materials was discussed, as well as the problem of Asbestosis. Mr. Sager commented that it appears the Textile Mills will try to be more helpful to- the fabricators; also that it appears the OSHA Standard on Fiber Count will be revised next year. XIII.
