EXTRACT OF LETTER SENT TO DR. J.F KNOX. PRAM nR- P. CARTIER AT THS THETFORD INDUSTRIAL CLINIC. THCTFORD MINES, QUE.
Dear Dr. Knox,
August 13, 1958,
It would be very informative for me to discuss with you the report on Dr. Braun's study.
Dr. Braun, like all the previous reporters, does not mention whether a significent exposure to asbestos fibres or the presence of asbestosis of any intensity are the factors which can or should be considered in relation to the incidence of pulmonary cancer. On the other hand, knowing that minimal asbestosis is easily missed on a chest radiogram and knowing also that, at least in this country, only a very selective group of employees are autopsied, we have to conclude that this investigation is not giving the true incidence of pulmonary cancer among the employees with some asaestotic fibrosis.
Since I now have an associate working with me at the Clinic, I intend to review more carefully and more .. methodically all my 7,000 medical files and to investigate many problems such as the importance of Survival Time, the progression of the radiological signs once the exposure has ceased etc.
I am going to attend the 5th International Congress on Diseases of the Chest in Japan in September and I might take this opportunity to visit you in Rochdale , if not, I do hope to see you in New York for the next International meeting. Wishing not to be too late this time, I do want to invite you to drive with me from New York to Montreal, Quebec and Thetford Mines.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Cartier M.D,
g^L^W.
