*i h i Medical Research Council reference GB/EMT/471-2--4 JUN *8 1977 MRC Pneumoconiosis Unit Llandough Hospital Penarth, Glamorgan CF6 1XW telephone Penarth 708761 23rd June 1977 Dear Hilton, I am enclosing a copy of a further draft of the morbidity study. This is a copy which I have submitted to the Medical Working Group of the Asbestos Advisory Committee. Since I last wrote to you Jgtanfc various difficulties on the publication of the paper have been removed. I have included some details of lung function and radiology as you suggested, but have limited this to men first employee after 1950 in view of the uncertainty of the earlier dust concentratior which were not measured. The priority now is to have a paper published. I have been discussing this with Dr. Gilson and there are a number of places where he thinks expansion is necessary. One of these is that a fuller description of the family of dose measures is needed but so that this does not detract from the main results the details should go into an appendix. Another point is that he thinks we should draw attention to a number of certified men in Tables 2 and 3, where it is not at all clear why they have been certified; the criteria of McVittie which we quote appear not to be satisfied. I hope that you would like to be an author of the paper, and I don't think that management at T.B.A. would stand in your way. Perhaps you would let me know together with any comments you have. With best wishes. Yours sincerely, Dr. H.C.
