SUBJECT SWRjCO Asbestos Abatement
An asbestos abatement project was performed at Southwestern Refinery on the FCCU #1 Reactor Tower by Thorpe Insulation Company of Corpus Christi, Texas. The insulation removed contained 70% Amosite Asbestos.
The results of the area fiber counts may be found in Table I. The area samples were collected from various towers in the area and at the same height at which the asbestos removal work was being performed. The purpose of the area survey was to determine if fibers were being released from the containment area around the removal project. According to the results the fiber counts and containment area were acceptable.
It is important to note that fiber counts are not specific for asbestos fibers. All fibers greater than 5.micrometers in length and having a length-to-width ratio of 3:llare counted. This means any fiber whether it is cellulose or asbestos will be counted.
Overall, Thorpe Insulation Comp"any appeared to follow OSHA, EPA and recognized industry procedures^n The abatement of asbestos. The company maintained a high levellof.professionalism and pride.
Any questions concerning this memorandum should be directed to the undersigned.
