SUBJECT: January 1974 Safety Meetings
This month's safety meetings consisted of discussions of our 1974 safety objectives and application of first aid. All meetings were well represented by employees. Potential safety hazards with suggested corrections were discussed.
January 8 Shift I
Instructor - James Owens
1. Requested fire watch in #2 and #3 Crude Unit areas while Olsen Construction is working in area.
Status: Fulfilled
2. Warning light is out on propane pump.
Status: Corrected
January 10 Group I
Instructor - Harold Ritchie
No safety suggestions
January 15 Shift II
Instructor - 0. H. Moody
1. Company vehicles need lights. Hazardous when early morning or night driving without lights.
Status: This-has been corrected.
2. There are some light fixtures over the sidewalks in the #1 Crude Unit that are tdo low.
Status: Impractical to move; therefore, fluoresent paint was painted on the bottom.
January 15 Laboratory Group A
Instructor - R. C. Wilson
- 1. Improve caustic sampling at Cat Cracker.
Status: Work order has been issued.
2. Leaded gasoline sink leaks.
Status: Corrected

1. Find and construct proper place to store HCL Bottles,
Status: ..A suitable place will be found and a shed shall be built.
2. A safe basket for raising and lowering personnel is needed.
Status: Olsen Construction Company has a suitable basket. We are trying to copy theirs and construct one.
3. A quite muffler is needed on the cherry picker.
Status: A muffler has been ordered.
4. Repair sliding door to eliminate pinch point.
Status: Corrected
5. A power down attachment is needed on the big crane.
January 22 Shift III
Status: This is being investigated. Instructor - Doyle Miller

Subject: General Safety
Refinery scooters have no tail lights.
Wipers and windshield squirters on laboratory pick-up trucks need attention. .
Leaded gasoline sink still leaks.
R. C. Wilson's chair rollers have been repaired.
Several sampling points in the refinery are potentially hazardous.
1. No. 2 Crude Unit 4--Oil sampling line is under a platform and in close proximity to four pumps.
2.. FCOT Cat Cracker charge sampling line is under the main column and not at the charge pump. Sampler must stand on an oily 2 x 10 platform with steam tracing line blowing in face.
3. Slurry settler sampling line at Cat. Cracker is in good position with sewer beneath. However the hot stream causes a blow back of fine slurry settler spray from the sewer.
