Mr. Lucius Williams Staff Supervisor - Safety AT&T Long Lines Bedminster, New Jersey 07921
Dear Lucius:
The two bulk insulation samples that you mailed to me from 811 Tenth Avenue, New York City, New York have been analyzed per your request. Results are as follows:
Sample 1: "From refrigeration piping in air conditioning
room."
This material was analyzed by dispersion staining optical light microscopy. There was not enough material for an X-ray scan. No birefringent asbestiform material was seen. The bulk of the sample contained a muslin material. This sample does not con tain asbestos.
Sample 2: "From refrigeration piping in drinking water room."
This material was analyzed by X-ray diffrac tion and dispersion staining optical light microscopy. An X-ray diffraction scan of the sample revealed that the major crystalline component is chrysotile asbestos. Birefringent fibers with the optical and morphological characteristics of chrysotile asbestos were seen.
