' *r 1 1- AR226-2029 INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Gregory A Chapman TO: GERALD L. KENNEDY TO: Dr L William Buxton TO:. JOHN M. MIGLIORE, P.E. Date: From: Dept: Tel No: 06-Oct-1997 04:25pm Roger J. Zipfel ZIPFEL Fluoroproducts 304-863-2567 ( CHAPMAGA ) )( KENNEDGL AT A1 AT ESVAX ) ( BUXTONLW AT A1 AT ESVAX ( MIGLIOJM AT A1 AT CSOC ) Subject: Goals for C-8 Exposure This note is to document the assumptions that went into the goals for C-8 exposure. Currently the C-8 levels in the most exposed areas average around 0.1 PPB or 20 of the AEL. The blood levels for the people in these areas averages between 2-3 ppm. * The detection limits for C-8 in air is currently d.Oi ppb, and the limit in blood is 0.1 ppm. . 10* the AEL I just cut the existing level of 20% of 5?*; ?he basis of this is that we are going to reduce C-8 emissions from 50% to 80% (or about 1/2). The goal to 3% ( REALLY SHOULD READ 2%) was determined by us geting down to the detection limit in air. A 10 fold reduction from 0.1 ppb to 0.01 ppb (detection level) would get us to 2% of the AEL. This would i n - t u m get us near the detection level in blood. These numbers (actual exposure and blood levels and the relationship betweeen them) are not hard science and should not be interpreted that way. I wanted for us to maxe a statement and wanted something that we could measure to. Roger. R12021179 BID093093 EID093093
