CFH-M0161-83 ASBESTOS HANDLING AND OISPQSAL On June 21. 1983. a meeting was held between Msssrs. Garza, Brough, Cavazos, Bounds (ABI), Gonzalez (ABI), Garza (ABI) and the writer to discuss problem areas in regard to asbestos handling and disposal procedures. Two major points were discussed and agreed to as follows: 1. Eliminate storage of bags containing asbestos at the pit or at outside areas. If It Is necessary to store a few bags until work Is complete then storage should be inside. If possible all bags should be buried the same day. .2 Prior to this, we have been handling all Insulation mat- . erlals as If It were asbestos. To greatly reduce double handling of salvage materials and unnecessary personal protective procedures, we will now remove all non-asbestos material on site for disposal at site III. If the material is asbestos, all handling and disposal procedures will be as done presently, per Bishop A-P VII-4, B. If the material is questionable (and of significant quantities), represent ative samples must be tested. The sample(s) will go to Chuck Gary at the Lab, who will forward on to the Tech Center. Lead time required is one week, so scheduling of work should be planned accordingly. Gary Hie should also be notified when sampling is done. Jaime Garza reminded everyone that the Texas Air Control Board requires 10 davs orlor notice on asbestos insulation removal _______ work when either of the two following criteria are met: removing over 260 linear feet of pipe insulation or removing over 160 square feet of equipment Insullation. tr F.
