MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT: Review o f Reproductive Epidemiology in the D raft document e n title d "A Cancer R is k - S p e c ific Dose Estim ate fo r 2 ,3,7,8-TCDD"
FROM:
Sherry G. Selevan, Ph.D. , Epidem iologist Reproductive E ffe c ts Assessment Group (RD-689) ^
TO: P e te r W. Preuss, P h .D ., D ire c to r, O ffice of Regulatory Support and S c i e n t i f ic A n a ly sis (RD-672)
I have s p e c i f i c a l ly reviewed those items in the te x t which r e la t e to Appendix D (U sefulness of Epidem iologic Data in the R isk Assessment of Human Reproduction and 2 ,3,7,8-TCDD (DIOXIN) Exposure). Under the sectio n where a referen ce to the hunan rep ro d uctive data would f a l l (E f f e c t s on Development and Reproduction, pages 18-9), th ere was e s s e n t ia lly no inform ation on human rese arch , and no referen ce to the Appendix in which inform ation could be found. A very b r ie f d iscu ssio n of the data a v a ila b le and t h e i r lim ita tio n s would be appropriate here.
There is a d iscu ssio n of the h a l f - l i f e of 2 ,3,7,8-TCDD and body burden in the middle of page 37. Some of t h is inform ation is out o f date (s t a r t in g w ith : This data base w ill be augmented s ig n if ic a n t ly when CDC completes a study . . . ) . A p re lim in a ry report of these data was published la s t summer and i s described in Appendix D. T h is paragraph should be m odified to r e f l e c t these new d ata.
I have alre ad y discussed these comments with B i l l Farlan d . I hope you fin d them u s e fu l.
