December 2, 1946 At the annual meeting of Members of.Industrial Hygiene Foundation, held here at Mellon Institute, on November 7, the question was raised, "!7ho is going to take the leadership in advancing occupational heelth -- the unions, government, or industry?" (Please see Annual Meeting Digest nor being mailed separately.) Tie bring this question to your attention in submitting the statement covering your company* s membership for 1947 in Industrial Hygiene Foundation--the only national association `of private industries for the advancement of employee health. This Foundation is not a commercial service with something to sell; rather, it is you-* } company and 500 other firms joined together for research, and the application pi v ') that research, for the well-being of people at work. This year the Foundations staff hes been strengthened with the appointment of another engineer and a full-time medical director. A new committee was created on Chemistry and Toxicology to serve Members. Two physicians were. added to the Medical Committee, one as a consultant to the Foundation's staff. Round-table conferences were, introduced at this year's meeting for physicians -- for physicians, attorneys, end compensation men -- for engineers -- and for chemists from Member companies to enable these specialists to exchange pertinent, unpublished data end experiences. Announcement is made here of the election of the following new trustees: F.F. Colcord, Vice President R.3. Given, Jr., President B.E. Kuechle, Vice President U.S. Smelting, Refining snd Mining Co. American Brake Shoe Company Employers Mutual Liability Insurance Co. Other trustees, members, activities, etc., are given in the enclosed circular which has just been issued. The above is an incomplete outline of some Foundation accom plishments in 1946. Through this cooperative undertaking, companies profit individ ually and industry profits collectively from the advancement of occupational health.
