Attached is the front page heading and an interior article from my local weekly paper. Now its still Texas here, so a controversial ruling concerning high school football gets top billing. Not far behind, though, is concern over the City absorbing an old Municipal Utility District. The specific concern is the quality of water and sewer piping materials used in the M.U.D. You see, they didn't use PVC. From the article, "PVC pipes are now what is used in most systems, because of its longer life." Good answer. ' Let me know your good news. I'll pass it on. The district was formed through the Texas Water Commission to be responsible for development of wa ter and sewer systems outside the city limits. IJut Morion said lie would like to see the MUD absorbed by the Cop pell city water system "as quickly as possible," although lie said there is concern that the district is using some steel pipe within its system. PVC pipes arc now what is used in most systems, because of its longer life, Morion said. If the city absorbs the MUD, then it would have to be responsible for maintenance on all the lines, lie said. Paul Phy, general counsel for the district, said the district is conduct ing a study on a more than five-mile stretch of pipe that goes behind the Lakes of Coppell. Me said the district decided to study the pipe because it has been there since 1975. In order to view the condition of the line, the district is using a method called "televising," with which they floated a camera through the system. Preliminary results from the study, which came out recently, showed that there were some spots that needed repair, but "the pipe was in better shape than we thought it'd be," Phy said. lie said another concern of the district is the widening of Sandy Lake Road. The pipe runs under the road, and Phy said the district may want to relocate it. A final report will be made next month, but Phy said, "We're really kind of pleased."
