Meeting with Dr. Raymond Suskind (E^Tillman, M.D.-A2SB
April 6, 1979
TO F. C. Meyer-A2SA
On April 6, 1979, Dr. Ferd Meyer and I met with Dr. Raymond Suskind and Ms. Pam Winner at the University of Cincinnati to discuss Dr. Suskind's upcoming medical examination study of Nitro 2,4,5-T workers. Dr. Suskind indicated that he would like to examine all workers exposed to 2,4,5-T since 1948, including terminated employees. We indicated that we have not identified or traced all of the terminated employees and could not easily do so within a short period of time. Dr. Suskind settled on examining the following groups of employees:
I. All persons associated with the 1949 TCP accident. (This group involves some terminated employees)
II. All active and retired employees who were exposed to 2,4,5-T and got chloracne.
III. All active and retired employees who were exposed to 2,4,5-T and did not get chloracne.
tv
IV. Control group of the appropriate age-race-sex and wage/salary composition.
We agreed to contact Dr. Suskind when we had an idea of how many people would be in the study group and control group so that he may decide if there are adequate numbers of people to examine based on the selection criteria specified.
He indicated that he might want to expand the medical examination study to include all terminated employees if the results of the first exams warrant doing so.
Dr. Suskind requested the following information for his medical examination study:
1.:- Information on permanent and total disability retire ments due to chloracne.
2. Workmen's compensation claims for chloracne.
3. Copy of entire medical record.
4. Work history with job titles^departments and dates associated with 2,4,5-T highlighted-
5- 2,4,5-T production chronology.
2 For the mortality analysis, he would like to include all waged and salaried employees who worked at the Nitro plant between 1948 and 1969. He would like to use the same four 2,4,5-T exposure classifications that were defined for the medical examination study. He would like to exclude those persons from study ,if an exposure classification cannot be made. He also mentioned that he would like to review any clinical data for the deceased employees, possibly to provide additional information on cause of death.
