July 7r 1964 Kaiser Gypsum Company will begin work this summer on the company1s second East Coast manufacturing plant to be started in less than a year. Claude E. Harper, president, announced today that the company will start work on a multi-million-dollar gypsum products plant to be located at Delanco Township, New Jersey. Construction of a similar facility at Jacksonville, Florida was begun last October and is scheduled for.coupletion this fall. Harper said the New Jersey plant will be completed by October, 1965. Engineering is virtually completed, he said, and bids for site preparation will be called in the near future. A 36^-acre site for the plant was purchased last month. The waterfront property, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, is located 10 miles northeast of Camden in Burlington County. The plant will incorporate the gypsum industry's most modern and efficient production and control equipment. Harper said. The Delanco plant will serve the building industry throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. "When completed," Harper said, "the plant will complement our production at Jacksonville and enable Kaiser Gypsum to serve the growing building materials market along the entire Atlantic Seaboard." (more) KG-0125 2-2-2-2-2 Both the Florida and New Jersey plants will have rated annual capacities of 180,000,000 square feet of gypsum hoard products and 40,000 tons of plaster. Initially, each plant will employ about 100 men. The Delanco and Jacksonville plants are the first on the East Coast for Kaiser Gypsum, which has gypsum products manufacturing plants at Long Beach and Antioch, California, Seattle, Washington and Rosario, New Mexico, and an insulating products plant at St. Helens, Oregon.
