March 8, 1541 Dr. Willard Machie Kettering Laboratory University of Cincinnati Cincinnati, Ohio; Dear Bill: I was delighted to receive your letter of March 4 reporting your findings on the men exposed to lead tetraethyl at the Bryce Oil Company. ________ Following your departure for Cincinnati, we made an analysis of urpne ejid blood by the dithizone procedure and our fincOTg^wereasifollows: urine, 1.72 mg. per liter; blood,,1^76 mg. per 100 cc. I am delighted to know that you and Dr. Kehoe have enlisted the aid of the U. S.: Public Health Service in following this interesting problem. You probably will not be surprised to learn that day before yesterday I was called on the phone by another of our local physicians who informed me that; he had a case which he suspected might be lead poisoning. I interviewed both doctor and patient and found that it was indeed another case of insipient lead encephalitis in a man operating another experi mental tetraethyl lead plant in one of the cities adjoining Denver. We haven't as yet had an opportunity to complete our analyses on his feces, urine and blood,!but I will be glad to send you cur findings if you should care to see them. So far as I know, only two men have been exposed thus far in this latter plant. kis making a very satisfactory recovery Bird will be presented at one of our clinics here in the medical school next Monday.
