APRIL, 1995 GOOD NEIGHBOR AGREEMENT BETWEEN CROWN CORK & SEAL, FARIBAULT ' FARIBAULT CITIZENS AND . CITIZENS FORA BETTER ENVIRONMENT,MINNESOTA I. INTRODUCTION The Faribault Crown Cork & Seal Good Neighbor Committee was created in April, 1994, to provide an opportunity for the company, Faribault citizens, the Sheet Metal Workers International Union Local 480, and Citizens for a Better Environment to collaborate on setting goals for pollution prevention. The Good Neighbor Committee met monthly for a year. Committee members served on the Good Neighbor Committee out of common interest in setting pollution prevention goals through mutual trust and communication. The Good Neighbor Committee was made up of the signatories of this agreement: Doug Cox, Crown Cork and Seal Plant Engineer and Member, Crown Cork Sc Seal Environmental Response Committee; Lloyd Heim, Sheet Metal Worker International Union Memberand Chair, Crown Cork Sc Seal Environmental Response Committee; Allene Mocsler, Executive Director, Cannon River Watershed Partership; Liz Hartman, Member, Earthtenders and Member, American Association of University Women;'Greg Carlson, Attorney at Law arid Boardmember, Cannon River Watershed Partnership; Steve Anderson, President, Faribault Chamber-of Commerce; Bruce . Anderson, Rice County Waste Management; Roger Wilkowske, Rice County Waste Management; lo Habefman, Citizens for a Better Environment. ' Members of the Good Neighbor Committee negotiated a workplan which included: 1). learning the history and accomplishments of pollution prevention efforts at Crown Cork & Seal in Faribault; "" 2). accomplishing an independent pollution prevention assessment of the plant, as an educational vehicle for committee members and to provide technical assistance to pollution prevention planners at the plant; 3). setting mutual goals in a Good Neighbor Agreement for continuing pollution prevention at the plant; ` DSW 135333 STLCOPCB4035314 1 4) . researching and promoting solid waste recycling opportunities for aerosol containers in Rice County; ' 5) . exploring possible roles for the Good Neighbor Committee in helping Crown Cork & Seal inform arid build trust with their immediate residential neighbors regarding pollution prevention and other environmental improvements and concerns;- `. 6) . collaboration among committee members in addressing issues regarding Crocker's Creek; 7) . explore possible roles for the committee in informing Faribault and Rice County businesses about pollution prevention and the collaborative model of working with management, labor, citizens and environmental technical assistance. Section II of this agreement is a copy of Crown Cork & Seal's pollution prevention policy statement. Section III documents the history of Crown Cork & Seal's commitment and achievement in the area of pollution prevention since 1991. Section IV documents current pollution prevention plans as developed by company employees. Section V documents an independent pollution prevention assessment performed by Ray Jones, chemical engineer and technical advisor to Citizens for a Better Environment's Good Neighbor Project, The current status of these recommendations is.also noted in a memo from Doug .Cox.. Section VI contains the signatures of the parties to this Goo'd Neighbor Agreement as a Jeclaration of mutually agreed upon goals for continuing pollution prevention efforts at Crown r ork & Seal, Faribault. .
