The responsibility for removal,, shipment, repair, return, and re assembly all rests with the Westinghouse Company. The necessary craft assistance by Kaiser Engineers and Foothill will be utilized as Westinghouse requires. A decision was also made that the crane operation would be handled by Armeo operators with the Kaiser Engineers or Foothill operator standing by for work other than the motor problem. The trucks by the way have been engaged by Westinghouse. The Equipment Trouble Report procedure ahan be used for this work with the time sheets being signed daily and material costs on a weekly basis. Westinghouse had promised a 28-day period of time for the repair of all 7 motors* The sequence of repair shall be Numbers 2, 4, 1, 6, 3, 5, and 7* There is a possibility that a single half may ship out Saturday, October 28, and three more are scheduled to ship out on Sunday, October 29* According to Westinghouse schedule, the two bottom halves of motor No. 2 should be repaired by 12 o'clock Midnight on Tuesday and returned to the jobsite on Wednesday. To continue the sequence, the repair of the two top halves of motor No. 2 would be accomplished Wednesday and Thursday, November 1 and November 2, etc., etc. KEN 003878 3- WESSLT FIETD ACTIVITY HEPOST Week Ending October 24, 1967 PBOJBCT FBOCBBSS 1. mLA - HCT STRTP HHL 1.1 Excavation and Backfill: 2,411 cubic yards of backfill was acccrcpli&ed during the period for a total to date of 892,976 cubic yards. 1.2 Concrete: 41 cubic yards of concrete was placed during the period for a total to date of 209,801 cubic yards. The period concrete consisted of the cap section for dewatering well #2 and grouting of tracks at Scale Fits 1 and 2 and grouting for the slab reject transfer car rails. 1.3 Structural and mg*y^ananpa Steel: A work force of 75 men continued through the period cn installation of miscellaneous steal in the Hot Strip mil- At colunn line 1, the rails for the slab reject car were installed, leveled and partially grouted during the period. Grouting will complete next period* The three slab transfer cars in the slab storage area are complete except for final electrical work an transfer car 1. Cars 2 and 3 are operable except for modifications on the cable reel. Delivery of these items is expected the week of November 6 which will allow these ears to be made fully operable and tested at that time. Installation of cover {dates over the steam trench near column line 1 continued during the period. All 8" bumper rail throughout the Hob ` Strip Hill is now collate. Installation of grating continued in the downeoiler area and in the conveyor area throughout tbs period. This grating work is 90$ complete. At the conveyor trenches between the Hot Strip Hill and the Green Coil Storage Building, the handrail installa tion is 955* conpiste and will finish next period. Progress was also ccntiaosd during the period on pipe and conduit protection shields in the flume, with two tons remaining. At Scale Pit 3, installation of handrail and grating continued in the pit area and erection of the drag conveyor structure continued through the period. This structure is now 955* complete. In the Boll Shop Area, installation of miscellaneous steel framing end some floor plate work at the roll stands was in pro gress during the period. An estimated 140 toss of miscellaneous iron remains to be installed in the Hot Strip Mill. This quantity axcGLudea eactans wurk carders. At the Hot Strip Hill bag houses, electrical at bag houses 2, 6, 7 and 13 during the period. Bag homes 1 Is complete electrically and requires steam piping to the heating oolle. Big house 2 is 9(8* complete electrically bub requires abeam piping to the heater coils. Bag house 3 is complete and reedy for operation. Bag house 4 and 15 requires steam piping to the heater coils to complete these systems. Bag house 5 is piped up but requires minor electrical work before placing in operation. Piping progress was not reported during the period an hag houses 7* 10, 12 and 14. At the finishing mill, the air conditioning system is complete except for a source of steam. In the douicoiler area, progress continued during the period on finishing the installation of the air conditioning units for the downcoiler director room and the coil con veyor director room. Duct insulation was coexisted at the coil con- *` veyor unit. Installation of grilles is remaining. At the boiler house control roan, the heating and ventilating fan is scheduled to arrive at the job site on October 31. Same instrumentation and water and steam connections to the unit are also required to finish this unit. At the scheduling office in the slab storage area, progress continued during the week on piping and instrumentation for ih* heating and venti lating unit and at the dose of the period the unit was made operational but lacks three damper* and ceiling grilles. This unit is scheduled to complete next pearled. The x-ray house heating and ventilating unit was completed during the pariod. At the clarification building, progress continued on the installation of instrumentation and electrical work far the heating and ventilating unit during the period. At the clarifier pump house, grilles were installed for the beating and ventilating system and instrumentation was started. 220 power is required for the dispatcher's office, recording room and the grease house beating and 1 ventilating units. This permanent source of power win be furnished by Foothill Electric. 1.6 Mechanical* Installation of mechanical equipment In the Hot Strip Hill continued in most areas during tbs period. Xh the fbrnace area, mechan ical cheek out waa initiated on the furnace charging table 12. This completes check out work on all furnace approach and charging tables. Mechanical work on the pushers is now complete except for test operations of tbs rams and tbs associated limit switch adjustments. A revision entailing a reiabrlcation of seme items is being experienced at coil conveyor 6 because of chain interference at the radial turn for this unit. At Scale Pit 3, the vet scale removal system is in progress. Installation of roll components continued throughout the period. This work is being installed under the supervision of a vendor's representative. In the Boll Shop, installation of roll grinder 3 continued throughout the period. Grouting of this unit is scheduled for next week. Coupled tests were performed on the following equipment: charging tables 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, inching drives 1 through 5, pusher 1 to the gear box only.' Uncoupled tests ware accomplished for the crop shea; system, the clarifier cooling toner pumps and the mill lev pressure water pumps. Check out continued by Westinghouso cn the. P50 and P550 computers in the B2 and. B6 areas throughout the period. Piping: During the period, 10,369 feet of piping was installed for a total to date of 304,556 linear feet. 2,615 feet of this installed quantity was instrumentation . tubing. To date, 24,863 linear feet of instrumentation tubing has been installed and 2,737 feet of tubing renin* to be installed. 34,116 linear feet of piping remains to be i installed by Kaiser fareeo in the Hot Strip. Mill. Major piping systems worked on during the period were: greet#, high pressure descaling, mill water, fhel oil piping, plant air, natural gas, steam, heating and ventilating, boiler tool water, dovncoilsr airi and instrumentation. The Mo Piping (Contractor for the Waste Heat Boiler 2&n and over piping) completed the hydro testing of the 265 lb. steam pipelines in the Waste Heat Boiler Area, Hydro testing is in progress for tbs 425 lb. steam between the steam drum and the air heater. Hydro testing is also in progress on the compressed air and natural gas piping in this area. Pipe installation during the period consisted mainly of additions or changes resulting from Dravo Design modifications. This contract is now 96$ complete. Norm Woolley (Contractor for the Waste Heat Boiler 2" and under piping) is 80$ complete. Essentially all remaining work required by this contractor involves extra work due to recent desigi changes. This header system is now 93% complete. Along column B, the natural gas and coygen headers between column 1 and IS is near completion. Progress is also continuing on the undergrotmd piping in the Scale Pit Area. 230 feet of grease supply header piping and 55 grease joints for tables 2, 3 and 4 were installed during the period. Hunter has installed 11*495 linear feet of pipe to date.
