The main disadvantage of this method lies to the necessity for following the pickling with a neutralizing and water rinsing operation to re move all face add and reaction products, and then a rinsing to either dilute phosphoric add or chromic add solution or mixtures of these to create an inhibited metal surface. This must be followed by a thorough drying of the metal sur face prior to painting
