< o C-> tri C.J ce N 7778 REGULATIONS FOR CLEANING STORAGE TANKS WHICH HAVE CONTAINED ETHYL GASOLINE These Regulation s are to be regarded as the minimum requirements for the avoidance of lead exposure in cleaning tan ks th at h ave been used for storing gasolin e containing ETH YL Fluid. They should not be construed as con flicting with refinery rules for the avoidance of dan ger from gasoline vapours, but rath er as supplementing refinery rules. They m ust be issued in equivalent form to workmen who clean storage tan ks, and they m ust be rigidly enforced by the m an agem en t. K B' 0007087 1. In side surfaces of the tan k sh all be kept wet durin g the entire process of clean in g in order to prevettt the men from breath in g in dust par tib le 2. AU workmen who most enter the tonka shall wear air-line hose masks through whieh air Is pumped continuously, (Where air masks are not available gaa masks of the canister type, impervious to dusts, m ay be employed, but air m asks are preferable.) 3. All workmen sh all be clothed in overalls, sh irts, underwear and socks, used for clean in g service only, an d with rubber boots o f good quality and in good condition. 4. The workmen should avoid skin con tact with the m aterials in the tan k, so far as possible. 5. Clothing sh all be ch anged an d the face and h an ds sh all be thoroughly wash ed at lunch time. In the evening the clothing m ust be ch an ged and a shower bath m ust be taken. The cloth in g sh all not be worn longer th an one day, after which it m ust be laundered. Boots m ust be cleaned daily. In th e case o f acci- dental saturation of clothing with sludge from the bottom o f the tan k, clothing sh all be ch anged at once. *b iludgi fb iu th tan k should be disposed o f by Hushing it down the sewer or by cartin g it w ay from the tan k in a wet state to a point where no men will come in con tact with it while working.
