DELAWARE EMPLOYEE RELATIONS DEPARTMENT October 7, 1981 DEPARTMENTAL OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGERS ASBESTOS EXPANDED COMMUNICATION PACKAGE As you know, for tha past year the Medical Division has been involved in an intensified program to review the medical histories of employees and pensioners who may have been exposed to asbestos during their employment. We want to ensure consistency in our communications regarding this program, so the attached documents have been prepared and are recommended for use by all departments. These documents should be used in lieu of those previously communicated to you on October 20, 1980 and May 27, 1981. The material includes: 1. A copy of the corporate standby media statement. 2. A suggested standby media statement for site use. 3. A corporate media backgrounder on Du Pont's asbestos detection program. 4. A suggested employee communication on the asbestos screening program. 5. Expanded questions and answers on the program. 6. Illustrations of asbestos-related abnormalities for use at the plant site. Because of the increased media interest in this subject, it is important that plant managemant limit the distribution of this package, especially the expanded questions and answers. The corporate standby statement and backgrounder are sent for the information of senior site management only. It will be up to site management to deter mine how broadly tha site-specific elements of this package will be distributed'to plant supervision. This package was approved by the Environmental Quality Committee on October 1, 1981, with a few suggested changes. These changes were subsequently approved by the Asbestos Issue Coordinating Committeeand incorporated in the attached package on October 2, 1981. By this communication, we are requesting that the PSERD Managers review this advance copy.
