Repschleger. 0_L_D _B_USI_NESS V LEADMEN UNION said they wanted it reflected in the minutes that the laborers wanted their promotions to temporary and permanent leadmen to be handled in-the same manner as in the other crafts. SANITATION UNION presented several fittings and a water sample from a fountain in Department 20, and asked that tests be run to determine if particles found in these items were harmful. They further asked why the drinking water used in the plant tended to be discolored. COMPANY stated they would run tests on these items and that the dis coloration in the water was caused by river sludge which occurred each year at approximately this time, making the water very difficult to clarify. It was pointed out that this did not cause the water to be any less safe. UNION asked why filters could not be installed on all drinking fountains in the plant. COMPANY stated the only requirement for installing filters wherever needed was a work order from the department involved. SANITATION UNION asked if any more consideration had been given to supplying disposable coffee cups in the units, COMPANY said no blanket decision would be made on this. It has been turned over to the superintendents to determine whether or not the cups were necessary and could be justified for their individual departments. APPRENTICE PROGRAMS UNION asked if the State had approved our program in connection with the new G. I. Bill. COMPANY said our program was approved, but it was up to each apprentice to apply with V. A. for benefits. CBY 3104049 OVERTIME MEALS GRIEVANCES #67-5-11, 67-6-12, and 67-12-16 COMPANY passed out the tentative agreement on the administration and interpretation of subsections (a) and (b) of Article 3, Section 4, which had been arrived at by specially appointed subcommittees. NEW BUSINESS^ SHOP FACILITIES UNION said that men were suffering minor irritations in shop areas because of welding and burning being performed there. Also it is felt the insulator shop needs more ventilation, and that there was a problem of dust removal. COMPANY said more fans are going to be installed in the shop, and the problem of irritating fumes will be investigated, along with the dust problem in the insulator shop. 'safety UNION pointed out that a pipefitter was injured on two different occasions in Departments 33 and 34 while working alone. They suggested that it would be safer to assign two men to work on jobs in these areas. COMPANY said they would check this out. VENDING MACHINES UNION said the service on these machines was still poor, and that sour milk was being obtained from the machine in the laborers' shack. COMPANY said employees should call 2201, office services, when machines were out of order. Further stated they would check on the milk machine in question. NOTIFICATION OF NIGHT SUPERINTENDENT CBY 3104050 UNION pointed out that men calling in before their scheduled shifts to report that they were sick, occasionally were not able to reach the night superintendent. In the case of a man calling locally and unable to reach the night superintendent, he should leave his number with the sergeant so that the call may be returned. CLOTHING ISSUE UNION asked if an employee who is retiring would receive the last two clothing issues which he missed because of sickness.
