ABD00310664 SARA 313 EMISSIONS - 1990 FACT SHEET The 1990 SARA 313 emissions were 60% 1987 base year, 18% lower than the emissions and 3% higher than the emissions. lower 1988 1989 than the reported reported 1990 total emissions were 3% higher than 1989 total emissions due to a significant increase in offsite transfers from LCCP and Baltimore. The LCCP increase is mainly due to the large quantity of asbestos removed from the plant (382,200 lbs.) during 1990. The Baltimore increase is due to a large number of tank cleanouts and sludge cleanout from the previously used wastewater slip. Total air and water emissions have been reduced each of the three reporting years following the 1987 base year. Of the total amount of emissions reductions from the 1987 base year, 48.8% were achieved by better estimating techniques, 23.5% were due to delisted chemicals and 27.7% were actual reductions. Industrial Toxics Project Chemicals have been reduced 12% since 1988. The base reporting year for this project is 1988. EPA will use 1988 emissions to determine if we have made our goal of 33% reduction by 1992 and 50% reduction by 1995. The Hammond Plant has had no SARA 313 reportable emissions in 1989 or 1990 due to the delisting of sodium hydroxide. The percent reduction by media since 1987 is listed below: AIR - 60.43% WATER - 47.07% OFFSITE - 44.88% TOTAL - 57.24% The Aberdeen Plant had the highest total percent reduction since 1987 - 63%. Chemicals reduced the most from 1989 to 1990 include: Carbon Tet. 80%, Chloroform 93%, and Chloroethane 75%.
