Scott Congratulates Miami International Airport After Being Named `Best Freighter Hub of the Year' KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Today, Governor Rick Scott congratulated Miami International Airport (MIA) for receiving the `Best Freighter Hub of the Year' at the Freighters World Conference last night. Governor Scott said, "Florida is proud of all the work being done at Miami International Airport. We've made significant investments to improve Miami International Airport so it can continue to provide excellent service and serve Florida's booming economy. The success of Miami International Airport is proof that our prioritization of investments is helping Florida continue to be home to the world's best transportation infrastructure." Governor Scott has lead significant state investments in Miami International Airport related to enhancing the airport experience: $26.2 million for Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) Connector; $22.9 million for automatic people mover; $7.4 million to upgrade concourse at Miami International Airport in Miami-Dade County; and $2.8 million for runway resurfacing. Last year MIA serviced almost 21 million annual passengers, placing it first in the state for passenger volume and 12th busiest in the U S. MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport, is America's second-busiest airport for international passengers.
