The City's Bureau of Lead Poisoning estimates that there are still 450,000 apartments in this city where lead based paint covers crumbling walls------and holds a deadly promise of future lead poisoning to young children. Yet President Nixon's new budget provides no funds, either for new housing, or for keeping nationwide efforts to combat the lead menace functioning at their current levels. Congressman Benjamin Rosenthal of Queens is co-sponsoring legislation to allocate 95 million dollars in Federal funds to help wipe out this recurring disease of the slums. WMCA believes Congress should enact this legislation.
