Safety There were no Restricted Duty or Lost Time injuries in the Production, Warehouse, or Boiler House Departments during the month. There was one First Aid injury involving a Warehouseman. April's shift safety meeting was a review of EOP #1 - Power Failure. A simulated power failure was held, and went smoothly. II. Personnel A second step grievance meeting was held with the ICWU on April 9, 1984. A Union-Management safety meeting was held with the ICWU and IUOE on April 19, 1984. During April, the Relief Operators were utilized to cover 236 hours of vacation, absenteeism, and physical coverage on a straight time basis. IV. Costs 1. Production estimate low for May due to outage required to balance inventory levels. 2. Variable cost estimate for April favorable due to the fol lowing: seasonal temperature benefit for steam, lower than budget price of No. 6 oil, and lower than budget cost for purchased electricity. TEN 4757 Activity Report Page 2 3. Fixed cost estimate unfavorable for April due to $35M shutdown accrual, to be reversed in May and June. 4. Conversion cost estimate for April favorable due to high pro duction volume. May's estimate unfavorable due to production outage. 5. Controllable overtime for April was 7.7%, the best performance ever achieved at Flemington. Primary factors affecting this were: effective Relief Operator utilization, reduced absenteeism (0.6% in April vs. 2.3% Y-T-D March), and modified work schedule (elimination of sixth day) for Warehousemen and Shift Mechanics. V. Major Projects and On-Going Programs A pneumatic torque wrench was evaluated in April for its feasibility to be used for opening and closing reactor manways. The evaluation had favorable results, work is in progress on the permanent installa tion. Modifications were made to the 318-5 formulation (CBS material) in April to provide the customer with a softer material. Conservation of effluent water discharge continued in April. Effluent from the backwash on the boiler water softeners was repiped directly to the river. VI. Environmental Reactor Building VCM levels averaged 0.2 ppm in April. Reactor vapors sampled averaged 1429 ppm in April. Stripped slurry samples averaged 203 ppm in April. VII. Opportunities Nothing to report. VIII. Vulnerabilities Nothing to report. IX. Industry Trends Shipments for April were very weak, resulting in a significant buildup of finished product inventory.
