DISCUSSION G eorgia-Pacific has developed and patented a resorcinol g lu e , GP-117 Resi-Lam, used fo r laminating wooden beans, tru sse s, e tc . They feel i t has very large p o ten tia l. I t is a two-part system containing about 3-4% RG-244. I t is machine applied (curtain coated) and 244 contributes to flow control and in it ia l tack. The lik e ly production areas for this product and contact at each location are as follow s: 1. Lu fkin, Texas - Sid Gholson, Area Manager 2. Coos Bay, Oregon - Don Koppa, Lab Manager 3. Albany, Oregon - Joe Dede, Lab Manager 4. C ro ssett, Arkansas - 0. C. Gunnels, Lab Manager 5. Columbus, Ohio - P. H rault, Lab Manager All of these locations should be actively pursued and a ll o f the people lis te d are aware of this product. A copy of th eir disclosure o fth is product and it s application is attached. Pete Hrault waxed poetic on the virtues of 244 in th is application and, in fa c t , said i t is the only-thixotrope which they have found to give the desired combination of e ffe c t s . However, he did say that they are interested in finding a lower cost material i f possible. Should his estimates fo r large- Gaorgi a-Paci f i c Col unbus, Ohio - 2- M 5/16/73 scale use develop, they would prefer our providing RG-244 in p la in , unmarked bags. We said that th is would be fe a sib le a t present only in CL quantities from Kirs C ity . However, we did say that we would be w illin g to try to work out an amenable solution as soon as they can provide accurate usage figu res. We also said we might package in th e ir bags at s u ffic ie n tly large volumes. We l e f t a MSO sh eet, OSHA regulation and an asbestos fa c t sheet and agreed to send Pete a copy of "The Safe Use of RG-244." We should be c a llin g not only a t the above liste d G-P in sta lla tio n s but other related accounts such as Forest Service Labs, Weyerhauer and wherever sim ilar application seem to e x is t even though the applications may not be id e n tica l. Some o f these other ap p licatio n s, for example, seem to involve d ifferen t concepts such as gap f i l l i n g c a p a b ilitie s and in stan t bonding. The G-P ap p licatio n , on the other hand, is larg ely a h a irlin e glue jo in t and some short time in a high-pressure press. The times involved, however, are minutes rather than hours.
