According to the list which we received from Piscataway, there were 28 persons given the special VCM Medical Examination initially. I under stand you have all of those records. All of the original data should be transferred to these forms and reveiwed by the doctor to assure that we have placed the correct interpretations of his results. They then should be forwarded to this office to the attention of John Novak. He will see that they are conveyed to MID for permanent record storage, and you will receive a print-out af the data after it has been stored. Please check the print-out for accuracy with the original records. As I discussed with you cm the phone, we are currently making recommenda tions as to who should be included in annual and semi-annual examinations. Since none of the laboratories have been found to be "above the action level of VCM", we feel there are certain persons that there are no question about such as Meyer Danzig. You should code his forms to be reexamined a year from his previous examination. There is also no question concerning persons who might periodically and rountinely work in the plants having regulated areas. I believe there were three or four in this category at Trexlertown. However, you will have to check with the PVC Group to see if any fit this category at Piscataway. My understanding as of today is that the Emulsion Plant at Calvert City has made a change in their process, has run new personnel monitorings at least 7 days apart, and has declared the Emulsion Plant to be below the action level. Therefore, contrary to our original thoughts, guys like Joe Leila and John Tavaglionne, who work in the plants quite often making experimental runs, would not then be carried under our Medical Surveillance Program. The first covers the numbers of years of experience with VCM and PVC resin. Essentially, it lists time working with VCM and, of course, PVC resulting from polymerizations. The second column lists time working with PVC under conditions where no direct handling of the monomer was Involved --for example, in analysis, quality control testing, compounding and fabrication.
