As we discussed during our telephone conversation concerning this subject, I was not originally a member of the Conoco Medical staff at the time the MSKCC/API Study was developed and, therefore, was not aware that this information had not been transferred earlier, but I remain some what puzzled as to exactly what purpose it will serve. I specifically address this issue in view of the fact that the API staff and several task forces were engaged for several months in an attempt to develop a job code dictionary for purposes similar to the issues involved here. I personally would hope that the information contained in the final product would be useful to this study. In view of the fact that most of the member companies had rather unique systems of their own applicable to various job categories, which varied from refinery to refinery and from chemical plant to chemical plant (even though they might all be carried under the same heading), I assure you that we who have been involved in our own in-house project at Conoco appreciate the monu mental task you appear to be undertaking. In any event, the job classification codes, with appropriate information from Mr. W.H. Bolding, are attached to this correspondence. As you can see, they are grouped into nine categories, as demonstrated in Table 2. The nine codes apparently represent one of the data items in the MSKCC/ API M&M Study and Mr. Bolding indicates to me that this coding has been supplied in the past for this purpose, but was willing to discuss it with you or anyone on your staff should it be required upon receipt. Your first paragraph indicated that one of the expected uses of this information was its application to the case-control studies such as SAL 000020601! It is my under standing that we have been'Underway" on this study for several months and there is some difficulty at arriving at a final questionnaire, but more specifically that the job codes referenced in the questionnaire, and for which Ms. Renee Payne has recently reminded Conoco of the need for completion, refer to the API job code classifications and not to the individual company classifications. If other companies have res ponded in the API job code characterization, instead of their individual company characterization, I guess I am viewing a monumental task on your part in resolving the inconsistency.
