Attached for your information is a copy of Dr. Steffey*s report to me of that inspection. You will note Dr. Steffey has commended you and your personnel for the fine attitude and efforts shown in maintaining healthy and safe conditions in the workplaces of your plant. Steffey April 5, 1976 Subjaet ANNUAL INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE INSPECTION - LAKE CHARLES VCM PLANT An Industrial Hygiene lnapaction was made of the Lake Charles VCM Plant the week of March 29, 1976. The purpose of the inspection was to physically check the installation from the standpoint of OSHA standards which cover General Environmental Control-Sanitation, and general use of toxic and hazardous materials. The following areas were covered from a general industrial hygiene standpoint: Main Office Warehouse Welding Maintenance Instrument Shop Laboratory Control Building Tank Storage & Loading Racks The following comments are made relative to the above areas: Main Office - In the air conditioning-utility room located in the west wing of the building a multiple type 110V. electrical receptacle, mounted near the bottom of the telephone cable supply board, should be fitted with a cover plate. This building, otherwise, is in good condition. Warehouse - The load limit should be posted for the storage area in the northwest corner over the restrooms. The warehouse was In very good shape otherwise. Welding - This area was found to be clean, orderly, and in good shape. Maintenance - The working areas were found generally to be in good shape* Instrument Shop - This area was being kept fairly well. With the type of work demanded and general storage requirements of materials, the people are doing well with their work areas. Laboratory - The laboratory in general was found to be in good shape. Control Room - All areas were being kept clean and orderly. Tank Storage & Loading Racks - This area was generally found to be in good shape. The area along the north side of the road which runs east and west to the south of the tank storage needs attention given to the stacking of pallets. These are not being stacked safely and orderly. Lembke* M.D. April 5, 1976 Page Two Also, drums* pallets* and materials are being stored near the sides and to the front of the safety shower and eyewash fountain which Is also located in this area. The area around the safety shower and associated safety equipment should be kept clean of all materials. This plant is being kept in good shape and the recognized problems are being considered for correction. It Is recommended that the obvious need for compressed gas cylinder storage and safe securing be corrected with undue delay. This would apply not only for central storage but for any and all compressed gas cylinders used at any location In the plant. People are to be commended for the fine attitude and effort shown in maintaining healthy and safe conditions In the work places of this plant. ( Industrial Hygienist rla CCR 000016530
