Good Morning,
Yesterday afternoon, Administrator Pruitt, sent letters to governors of 56 states and territories announcing plans to host a National Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. to take action on PFAS. In addition to states and territories, participants will include representation by tribes, stakeholder groups (such as AWWA, ECOS, ASTSWMO, ACC) and other federal agencies. Participants of the summit will work to share information on ongoing efforts to characterize risks from PFAS and develop monitoring and treatment/cleanup techniques; identify specific near-term actions, beyond those already underway, that are needed to address challenges currently facing states and local communities; and develop risk communication strategies to address public concerns with PFAS. The summit will conclude with a discussion limited to Federal agencies and co-regulators to make progress on near-term priorities. After the Summit, EPA plans to travel to states with communities impacted by PFAS to further the engagement. EPA plans to develop a PFAS Management Plan to be released later this year. Your assistance will be critical in planning the Summit and as we develop the PFAS Management Plan.
The PFAS website has also been updated to reflect this announcement and highlight EPA's ongoing and upcoming work. Thank you all for your continued support on PFAS efforts and for your ongoing work to support the development of additional tools to support states and local communities.
